Religious Leaders In Boyolali Named As Suspects Of Child Violence

BOYOLALI The quick action of residents of Mojo Hamlet, Andong District, Boyolali Regency, in reporting irregularities that occurred in their environment has exposed the allegation of violence against children by a local community leader.

Starting from suspicions of the presence of children in a house, residents and village officials came to the location and found two children in a pathetic condition: their legs were blocked by an iron chain on the terrace of the house. This finding triggers further investigation by the police.

In a press conference held Monday, July 14, the Boyolali Police officially named SP (60) as a suspect. SP, known as the caregiver of children with religious backgrounds, now has to be legally responsible for their actions.

"Based on the results of the examination and statements of witnesses, as well as physical evidence found at the location, we have determined SP as a suspect," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Boyolali Police, AKP Joko Purwadi in a written statement received on Monday, July 14, 2025.

The confiscated evidence also strengthened allegations of violence, including iron chains, locklocks, and iron antenna rods that were allegedly used to torture the victims.

At least four children were reported to have been under SP's tutelage, and two of them were directly victims of human dignity.

SP was charged with two articles of the Child Protection Act:

Article 77B in conjunction with Article 76B: the maximum threat is 5 years in prison and/or a fine of up to Rp. 100 million.

Article 80 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 76C: the threat of 3.5 years in prison and/or a fine of up to Rp72 million.

In a separate statement, Boyolali Police Chief AKBP Rosyid Hartanto admitted that SP is known as a religious figure in the surrounding environment. "Whatever the social position, defending children is not part of education, but violence. The law will still be enforced," he said firmly.

Representatives of the Boyolali District Social Service who were also present at the press conference ensured that all victims are now under psychological protection and assistance. The trauma experienced by these children is a big job for all parties, not only the apparatus, but also the social community.

This incident is proof that environmental surveillance by residents plays an important role in preventing and stopping violence against children. Often, this kind of case is not detected because it takes place in a closed space under the pretext of education or religion.

'Children should not be silenced by adult rule, especially when their rights and dignity are stepped on in the name of learning',' said a child protection activist present to accompany the process.

The Boyolali Police appealed to the public not to hesitate to report if they suspected acts of violence, especially against vulnerable groups such as children. Small actions by residents can save the future of children who may be struggling in silence.
