JAKARTA - Member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Hasbiallah Ilyas, highlighted the rampant practice of prostitution around the capital city of Nusantara (IKN), East Kalimantan.

He urged the police to uncover a network of commercial sex workers (CSWs) operating in the area.

"I ask the Indonesian National Police to immediately investigate this case, thoroughly investigate who the actors or brains behind sending the prostitutes around IKN," Hasbi told reporters, Jakarta, Tuesday, July 8.

Hasbi revealed that throughout 2025, at least 64 prostitutes have been secured by the North Penajam Paser Regency Satpol PP, especially in Sepaku District which is part of the IKN area.

This PKB politician regretted this phenomenon, which not only tarnished the image of IKN as a new capital city, but also has the potential to have serious social impacts if it is not handled thoroughly.

"So don't just catch it on the pitch, but dismantle the network," said Hasbi.

Hasbi also emphasized the importance of synergy between law enforcement officials, local governments, and IKN authorities in maintaining social order and preventing illegal practices.

"If it is not taken seriously, this prostitution practice will worsen the image of IKN as the center of new government which should be the face of Indonesia's future," he continued.

According to data from Satpol PP, most of the prostitutes came from Samarinda, Balikpapan, Bandung, Makassar, and Yogyakarta. The practice of prostitution is mostly done online through social media applications with an inn room rental rate of around Rp. 300 thousand per night.

After coaching, the perpetrators from outside the area were asked to leave the Penajam Paser Utara Regency area.
