JAKARTA - UN Secretary-General Ant Totalio Guterres stressed on Sunday evening that peace in Palestine should be based on a two-state solution.
In a speech at Brazil's 2025 BRICS Summit, Secretary General Guterres said peace began with an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, the release of hostages immediately and unconditionally, the delivery of free and unrestricted humanitarian aid, and an end to devastating annexation and violence in the West Bank, reported by WAFA July 7.
In a post on social media X last Friday, Secretary General Guterres revealed that the number of humanitarian crises in Gaza was getting worse.
"The last live line for survival is cut off. Without urgent fuel supply, incubators will die, ambulances cannot reach those who are injured and sick, and water cannot be purifyed," he wrote.
"The PBB has a clear and proven plan, rooted in humanitarian principles, to provide important assistance to civilians safely and on a large scale, wherever they are," he continued.
"I renew my call for an immediate permanent ceasefire and for immediate release and unconditionally for all hostages," said Secretary General Guterres.
Earlier, leaders of the BRICS countries in a joint statement Sunday condemned the attack on the Gaza Strip, expressing "major concerns" against the Palestinian people over Israeli attacks, in addition to condemning attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities as well as terrorist attacks on Indian-runturbations.
It is known that the latest conflict in Gaza broke out after a Palestinian militant group attacked Israel's southern region on October 7, 2023, leaving 1,200 people dead and another 251 held hostage according to Israeli calculations.
Israel responded to this by blocking, airstrikes and military operations in the Gaza Strip region.
Israel and the Palestinian militant group agreed to a ceasefire and exchange of hostages and detainees on January 19.
On March 2, Israel again carried out a total blockade against Gaza under the pretext of pressuring Palestinian militant groups to agree on a ceasefire proposed by the United States and a exchange of hostages.

About 20 hostages remain are believed to be alive. The majority of the initial hostages have been released through diplomatic negotiations, although the Israeli military has also released several hostages.
As of yesterday, Palestinian deaths in the Gaza Strip since the latest conflict broke out have reached 57,418 and 136,261 others have been injured, according to a medical source in Gaza.
