TANGERANG - A total of 21 flights at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Soetta), Tangerang, Banten were reportedly disrupted due to kite play activities around the airport area, along July 4, 2025.
President Director of AirNav Indonesia Capt. Avirianto Suratno said this disturbance caused a number of planes to cancel landings until they were diverted to other airports.
"We deeply regret that there are still people who fly kites in the area of the approach route and take off Soetta Airport. This is very dangerous for flight safety," said Avirianto in Tangerang, Antara, Monday, July 7.
Details of Flight Disturbances due to kite disruptions recorded by AirNav Indonesia:
- 9 planes were diverted to another airport (diverted),
- 6 planes were forced to go around or cancel landings and return to fly,
- 5 planes canceling approximation procedures (approach),
- 1 return to base aircraft, return to the airport of origin.
As a form of emergency response, AirNav issued a Notice to Airmen (Notam) number A1912/25, containing warnings to pilots and airlines regarding potential flight disruptions due to kite activity.
"We took out Notam because the kites in the final approach area really threaten the safety of planes that want to take off and land," said Avirianto.
AirNav Indonesia asked the public, especially those living around Soetta Airport, not to fly kites because it could endanger the lives of passengers and flight crews.
"We beg you very much, for the sake of mutual safety, stop playing kites around the airport. This is not a matter of fun, but a matter of human life," said Avirianto.
As a follow-up, AirNav has coordinated with a number of stakeholders such as the Airport Authority Region I, Soetta Airport Police, PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia, and other relevant stakeholders.
