JAKARTA - Russian air defense units destroyed dozens of Ukrainian drones on Russian territory, including more than 40 drones in the Voronezh region on the Ukrainian border.

Voronezh region governor Alexander Gusev wrote on Telegram, saying there were no injuries and more than 40 drones were destroyed in urban areas and near the border.

In the Rostov region, on Ukraine's eastern border, Governor Yuri Slyusar said air defense units were parrying a number of attacks in three areas, but drones had damaged the sports complex in the city of Taganrog and the grain storage area in the city of Azov.

Slyusar reported no injuries.

Meanwhile, the Governor of the Ulyanovsk region in the Volga River said eight drones were successfully beaten back without causing any casualties.

As reported by Reuters on Wednesday, June 25, the Russian Ministry of Defense, in a post on Telegram, said 44 drones had been intercepted and destroyed for about four hours.

The drone was shot down in the Voronezh region and the Belgorod region on the Ukrainian border and some in the area along the Volga River.

Airports near Volga are temporarily closed. Reuters was unable to independently verify the attack.

Ukraine has increased the capacity to manufacture and attack drones since the start of a 40-month war against Russia.

In an attack earlier this month, dubbed the "Spider Net Operation", the drone targeted Russian long-range bombers at the air base.

Russia has intensified its drone and missile attacks on Ukrainian cities in recent months. A missile strike on Tuesday, June 24 in southeastern Ukraine killed 17 people.
