Support KPK Investigate Allegations Of Corruption Hajj Quota, PKB: Can't Be Repeated

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Communication and Information Technology Division of the National Awakening Party (PKB) DPP Iman Sukri stated that his party supports the investigation of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on allegations of corruption in determining quotas and organizing Hajj at the Ministry of Religion (Kemenag) in 2023-2025.

"We support the KPK's steps to enforce the law. Now, this is part of solely improving the quality of Hajj organizers like that," said Iman to reporters, Friday, June 20.

According to Iman, the number of pilgrims in Indonesia is one of the most in the world. Unfortunately, there are many complaints from the pilgrims regarding the lack of services for organizing Hajj.

"Our pilgrims sometimes feel that what is not served properly, eat that is sometimes terlat, there is unity, there are other things. Well, that should not be repeated," said Iman.

This member of Commission XIII of the DPR said that the KPK certainly already has data on the potential loss to the state from the alleged corruption in the implementation of the Hajj. Thus, he considered the need to strengthen supervision over the implementation of worship in the Holy Land from Indonesia.

"Let's strengthen the supervision, let's arrange the regulations so that no gray area becomes a potential for corruption and so on in Hajj organizers," he explained.

As previously reported, the KPK has investigated allegations of corruption in determining the quota and implementation of Hajj at the Ministry of Religion since 2023. The current process is still under investigation.

"Yes, that's right (there is an investigation into the alleged corruption in determining the quota and implementation of Hajj at the Ministry of Religion, ed)," said Acting Deputy for Enforcement and Execution of the KPK Asep Guntur Rahayu when confirmed by reporters, Thursday, June 19.

Asep did not want to talk further about the investigation which was carried out behind closed doors. However, a number of related parties began to be summoned by investigators.

The KPK has received a number of reports from the public regarding the 2024 Hajj quota in the era of the Minister of Religion (Menag) Yaqut Cholil Qoumas. The agency spokesman at the time, Tessa Mahardhika, said the follow-up would be carried out
