JAKARTA - Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Muhammad Tito Karnavian has allowed local governments (Pemda) to hold meetings at hotels or restaurants, as long as they are not excessive and emphasize that these activities target hotels or restaurants that are experiencing difficulties.

This was conveyed by the Minister of Home Affairs at the Inauguration of the National Board of Management of the Indonesian Regency DPRD Association (ADKASI) for the 2025-2030 period and the National ADKASI Seminar in Jakarta, Thursday, June 19.

According to him, in the midst of budget efficiency, sectors that have supply chains such as hotels and restaurants need to be maintained to stay alive.

"I say that we still revive sectors that have a supply chain, then have labor such as hospitality, restaurants, hotels, I allow as long as it's not excessive," Tito said as quoted by ANTARA.

Tito said that the hospitality industry depends on government activities. Therefore, this sector needs to be supported so that it continues to live.

Because, apart from absorbing labor, this sector has a supply chain that supports other businesses such as logistics and entertainment.

He believes that the budget efficiency carried out by the local government does not really shake the fiscal of each region. Therefore, local governments are allowed to carry out activities in hotels or restaurants.

"Create activities to revive them, do not let layoffs (termination of employment) occur, do not let them disappear and then the supply chain, and others," he said.

The Minister of Home Affairs admitted that he received direct directions from President Prabowo Subianto to revive the hospitality industry. He also did not want to over-regulate the provisions for the use of the budget for activities in hotels or restaurants in the form of a Minister of Home Affairs Regulation (Permendagri).

He is worried that if it is regulated in too much detail through the Minister of Home Affairs, it will make it difficult for the local government to implement it. Therefore, the Minister of Home Affairs submitted the policy to the discretion of each local government.

"That's why I use more discretion by being supervised by the DPRD together. But I'm open if there are other inputs, if there are better ones," he explained.
