Mount Raung Eruption Ash Colon Reaches 750 Meters, Residents Are Asked Not To Approach

JEMBER - Mount Raung, which is located on the border of Jember, Bondowoso, and Banyuwangi Regencies, again experienced an eruption today at around 09.18 WIB.

The height of the eruptive column was observed to reach 750 meters above the peak or about 4,082 meters above sea level (masl).

"There was an eruption of Mount Raung with an eruption column height of about 750 meters. The ash column was observed to be white to gray, moderate to thick intensity, pointing northeast and east," said Mount Raung Observation Post Officer Benny Setyawan, in a written report received, Antara, Wednesday, June 11.

According to Benny, seismic footage was dominated by tremors, and until the report was made, the eruption activity was still ongoing.

Until now, Mount Raung is still at Level II (Alert) Status. The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) appealed to the public, visitors, and tourists not to approach the crater area within a radius of three kilometers.

Residents are also asked not to go down the caldera or spend the night in the crater area, given the potential danger of eruptions that can still occur at any time.

Previously, the Head of the Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Muhammad Wafid, explained that during the first week of June 2025, Mount Raung experienced an increase in seismic activity.

Blowing earthquakes dominated with an intensity of between three and 10 times per day, accompanied by one deep volcanic earthquake and four continuous tremors with a dominant amplitude of one millimeter.

The eruption is expected to originate from a shallow depth. Meanwhile, the ash distribution is still limited around the crater and the northeastern sector," he said.

The public is asked to remain vigilant, follow official information from the government, and not easily provoked by invalid information that can cause panic.
