Puan Maharani: Eid Is Not Just A Matter Of Sacrifice Ritual

JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, revealed the meaning of Eid al-Adha which is commemorated by all Muslims today. According to Puan, the essence of Eid is not only limited to making sacrifices or slaughtering animals.

"Eid al-Adha is not just a matter of sacrificial worship rituals. More than that, this is a reflection of how we must dare to sacrifice for greater interests, share with others, foster sincerity," said Puan in Jakarta, Friday, June 6.

According to the daughter of the 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia Megawati Soekarnoputri, Eid teaches the public to care for others, especially for those who live in limitations.

Eid al-Adha also sets an example of the spirit of mutual cooperation and strengthening social empathy between others. For those who have sustenance, this is the right time to share and strengthen brotherhood," said Puan.

He continued, the spirit of Eid can also be a collective energy for all state administrators to always fight for the needs of the people. In particular, said Puan, for those who live in difficulties and limitations.

"The true sacrifice is when we place the people above personal and group interests. That is the essence of leadership based on human values and justice," he said.

On the one hand, Puan hopes that the momentum of sacrifice will be a means to empower local breeders who aim to strengthen the economy. This has also become a form of social cooperation as a characteristic of Indonesian citizens.

"Hopefully the sacrifices we make this year will not only be a charity of worship, but also a real contribution in building social resilience and the economy of the small people," said Puan.

On that basis, Puan invited the entire community to make Eid al-Adha a reflective moment to strengthen a sense of humanity and social solidarity.

"Let's make Eid al-Adha a momentum to reaffirm national commitment: that in every step and decision, the people must always be the main ones," he concluded.

Today, Puan performed the Eid prayer 1446 Hijriah at the Istiqlal Mosque, Central Jakarta. Before the Eid prayer started, Puan had time to wait in the holding room with President Prabowo Subianto, ministers, and other officials.
