TWA Ijen Crater Closed For One Day To Clean Garbage

JAKARTA - Ijen Crater Nature Tourism Park (TWA) whose areas in Bondowoso and Banyuwangi Regencies, East Java are closed for one day on Friday (6/6) to clean areas of waste and maintain environmental cleanliness and ecosystem recovery.

Head of Section V of the East Java Natural Resources Conservation Center (BBKSDA), Dwi Sugiarto, said that this activity is a monthly routine agenda that is held every first Friday (Ijen Rijig).

"This is a routine activity every Friday at the beginning of the month, we close the hiking trail for tourists because we clean and close for 24 hours," he said, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, June 5.

This cleaning aims to clean up the environment and restore the ecosystem in the TWA Ijen area, including collecting garbage, maintaining hiking trails, and maintaining public facilities.

In addition, he said, the opportunity to provide education to local residents about waste management in tourist areas.

"This is also part of us giving time for the ecosystem there to recover, at least a day a month a month we give opportunities for animals around Ijen to move freely without being disturbed by visitors," he said.

The activities were carried out thoroughly, starting from the peak of Mount Ijen to the Paltuding area.

"D-1 usually we start at the top, we collect the garbage, then it is transported down," he said.

The waste collected in the Ijen Rijig activity was then transported to the Reduce Reuse Recycle Waste Management Site (TPS3R) Dewi Tari in Tamansari Village, Licin District, Banyuwangi Regency.

"There, the garbage will be sorted, some are processed into organic fertilizer. While the residue will be transported to the TPA," he said.
