Chairman of the Central Executive Board (DPP) of PDIP Djarot Saiful Hidayat gave a critical note regarding the process of rewriting Indonesia's history. He stressed that the government should not deviate from historical facts when rewriting national history.
"Writing history, please really comply with historical facts, not his stories, not stories that win, but really stories about the struggle of our nation," Djarot told reporters, Sunday, June 1.
The government, continued Djarot, must also prioritize the aspect of openness to the community, starting from the preparation of the skeleton to processing it into a history book without any obscuration.
"Don't let that history be covered up. Don't keep it in disarray. So, we really have to make history when there is a history writing, it must be advanced openly," said Djarot.
With regard to the anniversary of Pancasila's Birthday which falls today, Djarot revealed that there are dynamics that have occurred in its historical record. He said that the commemoration of the Birthday of Pancasila on June 1 was banned by the New Order government.
"The birthday of Pancasila was prohibited by the New Order government, by Kopkamtib (Commando for Security and Order Recovery). At that time in 1970, when Bung Karno died, then Pancasila's Birthday was prohibited," he explained.
"Because the government at that time, based on the writing from Prof. Nugroho Notosusanto, said that Pancasila's birthday was not June 1. It was fought and it was straightened out by historians," added Djarot.
The Ministry of Culture has appointed three historians, namely Susanto Zuhdi, Singgih Tri Sulistiyono, and Jajat Burhanudin, to compile the Concept of Indonesian History.
This rewriting plan includes the beginning of the birth of the people of the archipelago to post-Reform. This history book is targeted to be completed on August 17, 2025 or to be precise on the anniversary of Indonesia's 80th independence.
The main reason for the revision of Indonesian history into the book 'Official History' is to reconcile historical knowledge with new findings from dissertation, thesis, or research by historians.
The results of this rewriting will later be officially recorded through funding from the Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Indonesian Historians Community (MSI).
Minister of Culture Fadil Zon said the process of updating Indonesia's history book involved a team that included 113 writers, 20 volume editors, and three general editors.
According to him, the Indonesian history book update team consisted of historians and academics in the fields of archaeological science, geography, history, and other humanities from Aceh to Papua.
Fadli said that the historical book update would be carried out inclusively by prioritizing the perspective of Indonesia's centrists starting from the early history of Indonesia, the colonial period, the war of independence, the era of reform, to the era of elections.

"So, we want this history to be written inclusively with a critical Indonesia, so the perspective of Indonesia, if the Dutch perspective does not have colonialism, yes (in Indonesia), they see it different," explained Fadli.
"For example, military aggression I and military aggression II, if the version of the Dutch is the action of the first police and the second police force, therefore the control of the vandals of security for the Dutch," he added.
