A series of conflicts between wild elephants and humans occurred in Perak state, Malaysia. The local government will hold discussions to produce decisions in resolving the problem.

The Minister of Silver, Saarani Mohamad, said the Perak state government was taking a series of incidents related to elephants that occurred along the Perak Gerik-Jeli East-West Highway (JRTB) seriously.

"We will hold discussions, and we need to better understand the behavior of these elephants, because they were recently seen crossing the highway in groups," he said after attending a session of involvement in the North Corridor Silver (NCER) Economic Zone, Thursday, May 22, quoted by Bernama.

Saarani said the discussion would involve the Silver Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) to produce concrete efforts to prevent the wildlife-human conflicts in his area.

"So, we need to work with the Hilitan, who is more knowledgeable about elephant behavior, to understand what causes this herd of elephants to frequently cross the highway," he said.

Previously, a man experienced an incident when the car he was driving was attacked by a group of elephants at KM11 JRTB, at around 20.15 WIB, Tuesday, May 20.

Local police said the driver of the car was injured. Meanwhile, the vehicle was badly damaged on the front, back, and on both sides.
