Ahead Of The May 20 Ojol Demo, Aplikator Denies There Are Cuts Above 20 Percent

JAKARTA - A number of online motorcycle taxi applicators have denied any commission cuts of up to 20 percent, following a massive demonstration of around 500 thousand online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojol) which will be held on May 20, 2025.

Gojek President Catherine Hindra Sutjahyo in a meeting with the Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi, said the commission cuts carried out by the applicator were in accordance with the Ministry of Transportation's rules, namely 15 percent plus 5 percent.

"What does this 20 percent commission do if possible? If we are in Goto (GoTo Gojek Tokopedia), of the 20 percent, it is for customer promotions," Catherine said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, May 19.

Catherine responded to a driver-partner request regarding a 10 percent reduction in commission cuts, but she considered it a risk of reducing total income or take home paymitra as a whole.

According to him, although the 10 percent discount is seen to increase revenue per transaction, the number of transactions has the potential to decrease significantly so that it has a greater impact on the decrease in total income received by driver partners every day.

"For example, from 20 percent cut to 10 percent, it may seem as if the income per transaction per driver's partner, may increase in transactions. But if the number of transactions obtained is reduced, that's what we are afraid of. And based on many times we are trying this, it will decrease, it will be steeper than the increase in revenue per transaction," he explained.

Similarly, Grab Indonesia's Chief of Public AffairsOR R. Munusamy said that his party imposed a commission on ojol partners of no more than 20 percent and only applied to basic travel rates.

"So we want to emphasize that related to ojol, Grab always imposes commissions in accordance with regulations, never more than 20 percent,"

As an online transportation provider platform, continued Jasa, Brab's fixed source of income only comes from two things, first commission or service fees; and secondly the cost of application services or platform fees.

Likewise, the Government Relations Specialist Maxim Indonesia Muhammad Rafi Assagaf emphasized that his party also settled that the commission cut was not more than 20 percent.

"Oh no, we can make sure we don't have more than 20 percent," said Rafi.

Meanwhile, Ryan Rwanda's Indrive Business Director admitted that the discounts applied by his party were only 11.7 percent for cars and 9.99 for motorbikes for the DKI Jakarta area.

"And this is our highest cut worldwide in Jakarta. In other cities, it is usually around 9-7 percent. And in our 9.99 percent commission, it includes everything mentioned application costs, passenger and driver insurance from Jasara Harja's cap and insurance," Ryan said.

During the meeting, the Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi, questioned each of the applicators regarding the number of cuts against the commission whether there were above 20 percent.

However, the four applicator companies compactly replied that the commission discount did not exceed 20 percent.

Previously, around 500 thousand online motorcycle taxi drivers (ojol) would turn off the application and hold massive simultaneous demonstrations on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, as a form of protest against applicators suspected of violating regulations.

The regulation in question is the Minister of Transportation of KP Number 1001 of 2022, related to the maximum limit of application cuts of 20 percent, but so far the app is suspected of cutting applications up to 50 percent.
