JAKARTA - Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said a series of recent Israeli attacks on Gaza showed Israel was not interested in ending the war.
In an interview with CNN on Wednesday, PM Al Thani said he hoped the release of the US-Israeli army named Edan Alexander from custody in Gaza would be a "breakthrough that would help restore talks to its path", but Israel instead chose to increase attacks on the Gaza Strip.
"Unfortunately, Israel's reaction to this was (the bombing) the next day, when sending a delegation," he said, as quoted by Al Jazeera May 15.
PM Al Thani also stated that the US-backed plan to distribute aid to Gaza through newly formed groups was not necessary.
The humanitarian aid group and the United Nations said they already had the means to deliver aid to Gaza but were prevented from doing so by Israel.
Israel has completely cut off Gaza's access to food, water, fuel and humanitarian aid since March 2, prompting global observers to extreme hunger to warn of possible catastrophic effects and allegations of using hunger as weapons of war by human rights groups.
Israel has claimed, with little evidence, members of the Palestinian armed group Hamas stole most of the aid that entered the Gaza Strip, prompting the exception of UN organizations, which have long been seen with anger by Israeli authorities, from aid distribution.
Thousands of aid trucks have been stuck outside Gaza amid weeks of Israeli blockade, with UN officials stressing they are ready and able to continue distribution of aid in the Gaza Strip if Israel lifts the siege.
The latest conflict in the Gaza Strip broke out when a Palestinian militant group led by Hamas attacked Israel's southern region on October 7, 2023, killing 1,200 people and another 251 being held hostage, according to Israeli calculations.
In response, Israel carried out blockades, airstrikes, and military operations in the Gaza Strip.
