Minister Of Human Rights Regarding The Vasaktomi Of Social Assistance Recipients: Namana Wacana, For What Am I Answering?

JAKARTA - Human Rights Minister Natalius Pigai was reluctant to give more opinions and admitted that he would investigate in advance regarding the discourse of West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi making the vasectomi a requirement to receive social assistance (bansos).

"The name is also a discourse, why am I answering? However, that is a note for us to ask. If it's a discourse, I can't do this first," Pigai said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, May 6.

When asked about the potential human rights violations of the discourse, the Minister of Human Rights was also reluctant to give his views.

Pigai asked the public to wait.

"Later, later, we will ask first," he said.

In addition, the Ministry of Human Rights will also coordinate with the West Java Provincial Government to review whether or not from a human rights perspective, making the vasectomi a condition for the community to receive social assistance from the state.

"The authority given to us is to coordinate with the provincial, district, city governments, yes, of course we will discuss so that the human rights values are stronger," he said.

Dedi Mulyadi plans to make family planning participation (KB) a requirement for the community to receive assistance ranging from scholarships to various social assistance from the province.

The Governor of West Java in Bandung, Monday (28/4), said that the plan was aimed at providing government assistance, including from the province, more evenly and not focusing on just one party or one family.

"Don't let his health be guaranteed, his birth is guaranteed, but the state guarantees that family too. Those who get scholarships, those who receive assistance in giving birth, family housing, family non-cash assistance, will be paid off by the state in one family," he said.

The governor, who is familiarly called KDM, emphasized that in the future the data on recipients of social assistance must be integrated with population data. More specifically, the population data must contain data on KB participants, especially male or vasectomi families.

"So, when we lower aid, we check first. Have you KB or not? If you have a KB, you can receive assistance. If you haven't had a KB, first KB. KB must be a male KB, male family planning. This is serious," he said.
