SAR Team Evacuates Fishermen In Alor-NTT Waters

The joint SAR team evacuated as many as six fishermen who were adrift because they experienced engine failure while fishing in Kalunan waters, Mataru District, Alor Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

"All the victims were grateful to be safe, they only felt a little tired after the bombing in the waters," said Head of the Maumere Basarnas Office Fathur Rahman, Sunday, April 27. Fathur Rahman added that the incident occurred on Saturday, April 26.

He also explained that his party received information from the wife of one of the victims who reported that the fishermen had an engine failure problem while at sea.

"On April 25, 2025 at 11.00 WITA, the six fishermen departed from their home in Waituba Village, South Alor District, Alor Regency to look for fish in Kalunan waters, when they were about to return the next day the ship experienced engine failure until finally the victims were adrift around Kalunan waters," he said.

Furthermore, the joint SAR team consisting of Rescuers of Alor SAR Post, Alor Navy Post (AL), and Alor Police Polair left for the scene.

"Not long after receiving this information, by deploying the Sea Rider Pos TNI AL Alor and conducting a search in Kalunan waters," he said.

In the search, he continued, the joint SAR team found the victims on a fishing boat that was adrift in Kalunan waters.

"The team carried it from a distance where the ship was traveling slowly and it was suspected that the ship was a victim's ship, the team headed to the ship and checked that the ship and six fishermen were indeed the victims they were looking for," he said.

After being found, the victims were then evacuated to Kalabahi Port, Alor Regency.

"Right at 21.10 WITA, all the victims and the Joint SAR Team arrived at Kalabahi Port safely and the victims returned to their respective families," he said.
