Cemetery Crisis, Bogor City Government Prepares New TPU Land In Sindangara

BOGOR Bogor City Government confirmed that it had found land that could be used as a new Public Cemetery (TPU) for people in the area.

Deputy Mayor of Bogor, Jenal Mutaqin, said that almost 2 hectares of land in RW 11 Sindandangrasa had been identified and projected as a new burial location. He conveyed this when he directly visited the location after participating in community service activities in a labor-intensive program with local residents on Saturday, April 19, 2025.

According to Jenal, the issue of limited burial grounds is not new. In fact, when he was still a member of the Bogor City DPRD, the proposed land acquisition for burials in the Sindangara area had been voiced by residents since 2014.

Now, after going through various processes, the local government has finally agreed on a location that will be used as a new TPU. The location determination was witnessed directly by the heads of the RW, East Bogor sub-district head, and the Sindangrasa village head during the visit to the field.

Of the total land area of almost 2 hectares, about 2,000 square meters is planned to be acquired in the early stages. The land acquisition process will be carried out in stages in accordance with applicable procedures, including adjustments to the Regional Spatial Planning (RTRW) and changes to location determination (penlok).

"God willing, this effort can be realized soon. Of course there will be a mature planning process, including adjusting RTRW and regulations related to plunging," said Jenal optimistically.

The existence of a new TPU in Sindangrasa is considered very urgent, considering that the burial ground in the surrounding area is increasingly limited. Residents have had to travel long enough to bury their bodies, or even fight over land with other areas that also experience similar limitations.

With the initiative to open this new TPU, the Bogor City Government hopes to provide long-term solutions for the basic needs of the community, especially in the social service and death sectors.

"We hope that the community can be helped, and there is no need to be confused when we have to find a burial ground for their families. This is part of the basic service that we must ensure is available," concluded Jenal.
