Mount Lewotobi Men Erupt Three Times, Abu Capai 800 Meters High

JAKARTA - Mount Lewotobi Male located in Wulanggitang District, East Flores Regency (Flotim) East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) erupted three times on Saturday.

Based on information issued by the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) of the Geological Agency, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) stated that the eruption occurred on Saturday morning at 00.27 WITA, at 01.14 WITA, and at 01.35 WITA Saturday.

In the first eruption, the height of the ash column was observed to be approximately 800 meters above the peak or about 2,384 meters above sea level. The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity leaning towards the north and northeast.

This eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 14.8 mm and a duration of approximately three minutes three seconds.

Furthermore, in the second eruption with a column height of ash, approximately 700 meters above the peak or about 2,284 meters above the peak.

The ash column is observed to be gray with thick intensity leaning towards the north and northeastern.

The eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 8.8 mm and a duration of approximately two minutes 43 seconds.

Furthermore, it was reported that in the third eruption the height of the ash column was observed to be approximately 600 meters above the peak or about 2,184 meters above the peak.

The ash column is observed to be gray with thick intensity leaning towards the north and northeastern.

The eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 8.1 mm and a duration of approximately one minute 44 seconds.

Meanwhile, currently Mount Lewotobi Male is at Level III (Alert) Status, therefore, the public and visitors are advised not to carry out any activities within a radius of five km from the central eruption and sectoral southwest - northeast as far as six km.

The public is also advised to be calm and follow the directions of the local government and not to believe in issues whose sources are unclear.

The community around Mount Lewotobi Male is asked to be aware of the potential for rain lava flooding in rivers that originate at the top of Mount Lewotobi Men in the event of high-intensity rain, especially in the villages of Dulipali, Padang Pasir, Nobo, Klatanlo, Hokeng Jaya, Boru, and Nawakote.

People affected by the ash rain of Mount Lewotobi Male are also asked to wear masks or nose coverings to avoid the dangers of volcanic ash in the respiratory system.
