JAKARTA - The EU's main diplomats said some of the block states strongly opposed the use of Russian assets frozen in the West for Ukraine's needs.

"Regarding Russian assets frozen, we are in talks with 27 member states," said the Head of Foreign Policy for the UE Kaja Kallas, as reported by TASS on April 10.

"We are making arrangements because there are some risks and we need to find a way to deal with them. In addition, some countries are strongly opposed," he explained in an interview with Estonian ERR broadcaster.

However, Kallas refused to name these countries.

"I won't name them, but you can read everything in the media and it won't be difficult to figure out," added the EU's top diplomat.

Previously, Kallas announced that the European Union intended to provide Ukraine with 2.1 billion euros in profit from frozen Russian assets.

The European Union, Canada, the United States, and Japan confiscated US$300 billion worth of Russian assets following the launch of Moscow's special military operations into Ukraine.

Of this amount, about 5-6 billion US dollars are kept in the United States. Meanwhile, most are in Europe, including in Euroclear in Belgium, where $210 billion is stored.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Maria Zakharova warned earlier that Moscow would take firm action in response to the potential transfer of profits from the Russian assets to Ukraine.
