4 Fishermen Search For Fish Using Explosives In Central Lombok Arrested, Polairud NTB: Damaged Ecosystem

The Directorate of Water and Air Police (Ditpolairud) of the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Regional Police is handling the case of four fishermen from East Lombok Regency suspected of catching fish using explosives.

Director of Polairud Polda NTB Kombes Pol. Adree Ghama Putra said the illegal actions of the four fishermen were revealed while doing activities by boat in Kuta waters, Central Lombok Regency.

"Their suspicious actions were revealed in the early hours of the morning at around 01.47 WITA," said Andree in a statement Wednesday, March 19, quoted by Antara.

Therefore, four fishermen with the initials SN (25), SL (19), S (29), and SI (33) are still witnesses. In handling, the police must strengthen the evidence for the need for a case title.

The evidence needed for the title is seven bottles containing active explosives that were secured from the boat. The explosives are suspected for fishing activities by bombing.

According to Andree, the practice of fishing using explosives is not only against the law, but also damages marine ecosystems, including threatening the lives of people who depend on their lives as fishermen.

"The use of explosives in the sea is a dangerous act that can damage the fishermen's ecosystem and livelihoods," he said.

Through the handling of this case, Andree stated that his party was committed to protecting marine ecosystems from individual fish bombings. One of the efforts made by water patrols.

In addition, Andree also reminded the public, especially fishermen, to play an active role in maintaining water security. They can report if they find and see suspicious activity.
