JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) stated that the river flow barrier in Parigi Moutong Regency, Central Sulawesi broke down after being hit by floods.
Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari said the collapsed embankment was in Tomoni Barat Village, Tomoni District, Parigi Moutong.
"There was a embankment that broke because of the flood," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, March 14.
According to him, the river flow was unable to stem the rain with high intensity that flushed Parigi Moutong Regency since Thursday (13/3) that evening.
Based on data from the rapid reaction team of the Parigi Moutong Regency BPBD, it was recorded that at least 50 families were affected by the flood and exacerbated due to the broken embankment.
BNPB confirmed that besides that they also received reports that there was one educational facility building and 56 housing units from three hamlets in Tomoni Barat Village, Tomoni District which were flooded.
Abdul revealed that the joint team of officers was at the scene to ensure that the condition of the residents remained safe, because the current condition of the flood was still inundating the settlement even though the rain had subsided.
