JAKARTA - The Gunung Rinjani National Park Center (TNGR) stated that the construction of toilets above the clouds is to protect the environment in the Mount Rinjani area of Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB).

The toilet is located at an altitude of 2639 MDPLs, precisely in Pelawangan Sembalun 1, the destination for the Sembalun climbing tourist route.

"A toilet facility has been built with an environmentally friendly concept that is ready to be used during the 2025 climbing season," said Head of the TNGR NTB Yarman Center in Mataram, NTB, Thursday, March 13, as quoted by Antara.

He said on every climb, everything is always faced with challenges, not only physical, but also morals in maintaining the beauty of nature.

"One of them is how to maintain cleanliness, even in a place that is far from civilization," he said.

Therefore, the Gunung Rinjani National Park Center in collaboration with Arei Outdoor Gear built a toilet at an altitude of approximately 2639 meters above sea level to increase the comfort of tourists who come to visit.

"This toilet is not just a facility, but a concrete step to reduce the adverse impact on the surrounding environment," he said.

He said the toilets that had been completed provided two options, namely sitting toilets and squatting toilets, all of this was for the convenience of climbers.

This facility is presented to avoid defecating behavior that can pollute the ecosystem and damage the aesthetics of Rinjani's natural scenery.

He said this step was just the beginning, plans to build a similar toilet will also be present at Segara Anak Lake at an altitude of 2010 mdpl, as part of a commitment to ensure that nature is preserved in high places that become a haven for climbers.

Hopefully this small step inspires all parties to always maintain the cleanliness of nature, not only when climbing, but also in everyday life.

"Let's work together to protect nature so that future generations can also enjoy the charm of the beauty of a similar nature," he said.
