JAKARTA - US President Donald Trump has doubled the rates he plans for all steel and aluminum products entering the United States from Canada.
Now the total import rate is 50%, in response to the province of Ontario which imposes a 25% tariff on electricity entering the US.
Trump said through Truth Social, he had instructed his minister of trade to add an additional 25% tariff on products that would take effect on Wednesday morning.
"Canada must also immediately revoke the American Anti-Farming Tariff by 250% to 390% on various US dairy products, which have long been considered outrageous. I will soon announce the National Emergency State for electricity in threatened areas," Trump wrote.
He also threatened to "substantially increase" fares on cars entering the United States on April 2 if the very poor and other long-term rates were not lifted by Canada.
