JAKARTA - Head of the Defense Information Bureau (Karo Infohan) of the Secretariat General of the Ministry of Defense (Kemenhan) Brigadier General Frega Wenas Ferdinand Inkiriwang said his party was considering a number of missiles from various countries in the procurement of TNI's defense equipment.

According to Wenas, Indonesia is not only considering purchasing missiles from India-based BrahMos Aerospace companies. However, he declined to mention the names of other companies under consideration.

"Currently, it is one of our considerations, to review, but I cannot give an official statement because there is no official contract yet," Wenas said while accompanying Indonesian Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin to meet with his Vietnamese partner, Monday, March 10, quoted by Reuters.

In 2023, BrahMos Aerospace, a jointly owned company between the Government of India and Russia, told Reuters it was in further discussions with Indonesia over a $200-350 million deal.

For what Wenas said, BrahMos Aerospace did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Indonesia has held several talks with BrahMos Aerospace to obtain land version of medium-range missiles and a version that can be installed on warships.

The BrahMos Aerospace reached its first foreign deal, with the Philippines, in 2022.
