This Is What The KPK Said About Hasto Allegedly Funding Harun Masiku's Escape

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is investigating allegations that the Secretary General of the PDI-P (PDIP) Hasto Kristiyanto is funding the escape of his fugitive, Harun Masiku.

Harun Masiku is a suspect in the bribery case for the interim replacement (PAW) of members of the Indonesian House of Representatives who should be entangled in a hand arrest operation (OTT). However, he actually fled and recently Hasto became a suspect in the obstruction of the investigation because he helped the escape process.

"Regarding the question about HM whether HK is a funder or financing, we are actually investigating it," said KPK Investigation Director Asep Guntur Rahayu as quoted from the Indonesian KPK YouTube, Friday, February 21.

"This investigation was carried out because investigators had confidence that Harun's escape would require large funds," continued Asep. Moreover, he has been on the run since five years or 2020.

"Because we investigators see that someone who runs away, right, requires support for costs, or funds, logistics, and all kinds of things," he explained.

"Because moving from place to place, then for example renting a place and others, transportation and others, that's why we are exploring it," continued Asep.

Even so, Asep has not been able to detail the deepening that has been carried out so far. "So be patient. Later we will of course also get there, who are donors in this matter (the escape of Harun Masiku, ed)," he said.

Previously reported, PDIP Secretary General Hasto Kristiyanto was officially detained in connection with the bribery case for the interim replacement (PAW) of members of the DPR RI and the obstruction of the investigation. He will occupy the branch of the State Detention Center from the Class I State Detention Center in East Jakarta for 20 days and can be extended according to the needs of investigators.

Hasto was charged with Article 21 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Corruption Crimes Jo. Article 55 paragraph (1) 1st of the Criminal Code.

As for the bribery case related to PAW, members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), the process will be carried out stimulus. This is because the investigation warrant (sprindik) issued on December 23, 2024, focuses more on the application of Article 21.
