YOGYAKARTA - Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti has just carried out her mandate as Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS).

The inauguration carried out by President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace on Tuesday, February 19, 2025, marks a new chapter in Amalia's career journey.

Prior to holding the leadership position at BPS, Amalia had long worked at the Ministry of National Development Planning (PPN)/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas).

Reporting from the Interanews page, Amalia's success in occupying various strategic positions cannot be separated from her broad expertise, which has been honed and developed since she studied at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), until she continued to America and Australia.

The woman who was born in Bogor in 1972 has qualified skills in the fields of macroeconomics, international and monetary economics, international trade, development economies, and economic modeling.

Amalia is known to have studied higher, starting with a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) in 1995, and a Master's degree in Science from the same university in 1997.

His interest in the economic sector led Amalia to continue her studies abroad, where she won a Master of Engineering degree from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, USA, in 1998, and PhD in Economics from the University of Melbourne, Australia, in 2005.

The appointment of Amalia as Head of BPS marks another important milestone for women's leadership in Indonesia. She became the second woman to lead the institution, after Sudarti Soerbakti led BPS in the early 2000s.

Amalia is not a new figure in the world of government. Prior to holding the leadership position at BPS, Amalia had long served at the Ministry of National Development Planning (PPN)/National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), where she occupied various strategic positions.

Amalia's work at Bappenas started from below, pursuing a career until finally occupying important positions. Some of the positions she has held include:

On January 16, 2025, Amalia was inaugurated as Expert Staff for the Development of the Superior Sector and Digital Innovation of the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas.

Interestingly, the last two positions mentioned above he underwent along with his duties as Acting Head of BPS. Amalia replaces Margo Yuwono who was inaugurated as the Main Expert Widyaiswara of the East Java Provincial Government on May 17, 2023.

Until finally, on February 19, 2025, President Prabowo Subianto inaugurated Amalia as Head of BPS at the State Palace.
