Hungary: Today, European Leaders Pro-Ukraine War And Anti-Trump Gather

JAKARTA - Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said European leaders would meet in France today. They will discuss a surprising policy of the United States (US) regarding the Ukraine-Russia war.

Peter claims the country that attended the meeting pro-war Ukraine-Russia.

"Today, in Paris, pro-war, anti-Trump and frustrated European leaders gathered to prevent a peace treaty in Ukraine," Peter said at a press conference broadcast live on his Facebook page, Monday, February 17, quoted by AFP.

The meeting of leaders of European countries today was held in response to communication between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin recently. Trump called Putin to talk about the start of negotiations to end the conflict in Ukraine.

"Unlike them, we support Donald Trump's ambitions, unlike them, we support US-Russian negotiations, unlike them, we want peace in Ukraine," said Peter.

Leaders of European countries from England, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, the Netherlands, and Denmark are scheduled to meet in Paris, France today, Monday, February 17 local time.

The event was held ahead of the three-year anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine on February 24.

It was planned to attend the meeting including European Council Chief Antonio Costa, who represented 27 EU member states (EU), EU Head Ursula von der Leyen, and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

The French president said the meeting would discuss the situation in Ukraine and "security in Europe."

Hungary is known to have long wanted the Ukraine-Russia conflict to end. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has repeatedly called for peace negotiations and refused to send military aid to Ukraine since the Russian invasion in 2022.
