MATARAM - The Public Works and Spatial Planning Office of Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara Province, has prepared an intervention scenario for handling a number of embankments that have collapsed due to extreme weather in the city.

Head of the Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUPR) Mataram City, Lale Widiahning, said that the extreme weather that occurred during the week resulted in a number of embankments breaking in several river water flows and causing water to enter residential areas.

"The broken embankments include the Marong, Selaparang, in the Jangkuk River, Unus River at the Karang Genteng border, and Ancar River in Karang Tumbuk and Kelapik Jaya," he said in Mataram, Antara, Monday, February 17.

He said, one of the causes of the river embankment was broken because apart from the high water discharge due to continuous rain for almost a week, it was also triggered by heavy river water flow, resulting in damage to the embankment, reaching an average of 50-75 meters per point.

For temporary intervention, all the points of the embankment have collapsed while using sandbags. Except for the damage to the embankment in the Marong neighborhood in the Jangkuk River water flow.

"Especially for repairing the embankment in Marong, it is immediately handled permanently by installing oval stones using basic funds for the thought or thought of the local DPRD members," he said.

Currently, his party is still collecting data to determine the length and depth of the ovals to be installed. With a budget of around Rp. 200 million, whether it can install an oval up to 150 meters or not.

"If it is not possible, we prioritize handling the worst point, which is about 30 meters," he said.

Likewise, with the points of the embankment breaking, the PUPR Service is currently coordinating with a number of DPRD members whose electoral districts were affected by the broken embankment in order to divert the pokir funds for handling the embankment permanently.

"God willing, if the council members in each electoral district agree, such as in Marong, Selaparang, all embankments can break down directly using this year's permanent intervention scenario," he said.

This, according to him, can certainly avoid a wider impact, as well as help the community to avoid the impact of further flooding so that residents on the banks of the river can live safer and more comfortable.
