The joint SAR team evacuated the bodies of two students from Sultan Agung University (Uendusula) Semarang, Central Java, Tuesday, who drowned in the retention pond at the college complex.

Genuk Police Chief Kompol Rismanto said the two students were D from the Faculty of Industrial Engineering and A from the Faculty of Teachers and Education.

He said the incident that occurred on Tuesday, February 11, began when a number of students gathered around the edge of the retention pond.

"The information is that one student who provides a competition for who can swim from end to end will be given Rp. 50,000," he said as quoted by ANTARA.

Then, he said, one of the victims agreed to swim.

While swimming, he continued, the victim was known to have drowned while in the middle of the pool. The victim who gave the challenge then tried to help by jumping into the pool.

"When I was about to try to help but it is suspected that it also drowned," he said.

The joint SAR team conducted a search around the location of the two drowning victims. The bodies of the two victims were found at around 20.00 WIB before being taken to the hospital.
