Israel's Opposition Leader: We Must Learn Details Of President Trump's Plans In Gaza

JAKARTA - Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid praised the press conference held by US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying the plans submitted by the White House Leader regarding Gaza must be studied first.

The Yesh Atid Party politician praised "a good press conference for the State of Israel."

"We have to study the details to understand what the plan is in Gaza," he told Army Radio, reported The Times of Israel on February 6.

Lapid said he plans to submit an "additional plan to the United States" during his planned visit to Washington later this month.

"The role of Israel's leadership is to convey plans, not just waiting for the United States," he said.

President Trump is known to have expressed plans to permanent transfer Palestinians from the Gaza Strip when he received PM Netanyahu at the White House on Tuesday.

Then, he also conveyed plans to take over the Palestinian enclave by then rebuilding it.

This has opposition from Palestine, Arab and Islamic countries, allies to within the country itself.

Regarding the hostage-taking deal, former prime minister Lapid stressed it must be "finished by the end, including the second stage."

He noted, "President Trump promised the deal would continue and the hostages would return. Netanyahu's statement about Hamas collapsing at the end of the deal was unnecessary. The return of the hostages was the most important thing, and the president also said."
