19.80 Kg Of Pork From Manado Sent To Ternate Was Secured By Officers For Not Pocketing Documents

TERNATE - Officers from the North Maluku Animal, Fish and Plant Quarantine Center have again secured 19.80 kg of illegal pork sent from Manado without official documents at Ahmad Yani Port, Ternate.

"Officers who carry out routine checks suspect a box that was deposited on the Al Sudais Ship. After further inspection, it was found that pork without quarantine documents hidden in a conveyance," said Head of the North Maluku (Malut) Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine Center Willy Indra Yunan when contacted from Ternate, Antara, Monday, February 3.

He revealed that the pork was found in a box entrusted to a shipyard storage area (ABK). In addition to illegal pork, officers also secured two adult chickens hidden in a truck over KMP Portlink VIII at the Bastiong Crossing Port.

"The entry of adult poultry into North Maluku is prohibited based on the Governor of North Maluku Regulation Number 17 of 2007, which regulates traffic control, maintenance and circulation of poultry in this region," he said.

He emphasized that this detention measure was an effort to maintain food safety and prevent the spread of diseases, such as Mouth and Nail Disease (PMK) and African Babi Fever (African Swine Fever/ASF).

Until now, he continued, North Maluku is still a PMK green zone and there has been no ASF case found. Therefore, his party continues to carry out strict supervision of animal traffic and animal products.

As was known a week ago, the Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) through the North Maluku Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine Center carried out quarantine measures for more than 300 kg of pork at Ahmad Yani Port, Ternate.

Officers found five boxes or 250 kg of pork in the kitchen, three boxes behind the ship containing 75 kg of pork mixed with 21 kg of fish meat, while the 2 boxes found in deck 1 contained 30 kg of duck meat.

Willy said North Maluku Quarantine officers detained the commodity because it was not equipped with a required document.

The incident began when North Maluku Quarantine officers carried out routine patrols of the conveyance, namely the KM Venecian ship from Manado which docked at Ahmad Yani Port, Ternate. Officers found 10 boxes containing pork and other animal products stored in different places.
