JAKARTA - Tens of thousands of Palestinian refugees in Israel's occupied East Jerusalem are threatened with losing education services, health care, and others provided by UNRWA.
"That is an unacceptable decision," said UNRWA spokesman or UN Agency for Assistance and Works for Palestinian Refugees, Jonathan Fowler, quoted by Reuters, Sunday, January 28.
"The people we serve ... we cannot tell them what will happen to our service until the end of this week."
The Israeli government has banned UNRWA activities in East Jerusalem under a law passed last year. The ban, which will be activated on Thursday, was also followed by Israeli orders for UNRWA to vacate its office complex in Sheikh Jarrah, East Jerusalem.
On Monday, January 27 local time, UNRWA workers in Sheikh Jarrah began packaging equipment and transporting portable buildings to trucks.
Until now, Israel has not announced the party that replaced UNRWA activities to help Palestinian refugees in East Jerusalem.
When questioned, Israel's Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu's Office had not yet responded.
