JAKARTA - A suspected surrounded opened fire on four police officers responding to an emergency call from housing in San Antonio, Texas, United States.

The shooting took place in an apartment complex in Stone Oak's neighborhood north of San Antonio.

San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said the incident on Wednesday, January 22 evening local time, occurred when officers responded to calls from members of the suspect's family regarding an attempted suicide.

The first officers arrived at the scene and were "shot at the bottom," McManus said.

"Other officers who came after him, or around the same time as him, were also shot," he continued.

The third officer who arrived at the scene was also shot and finally, the fourth officer who arrived at the scene was shot, I'm sure it happened at the top of the body," McManus said.

The four policemen were hospitalized for injuries that were believed not to be life-threatening.

As of Wednesday night, the suspect, identified as a man in his 40s, was still under siege inside the apartment.

The exact condition that caused the shooting was still unclear. McManus did not say whether the officers returned the fire.

"Currently, mediates are preparing an effort to get these individuals out. Once they have a plan, we'll see how it goes," McManus said.
