BOGOR Bogor Regency Government through the Department of Livestock and Fisheries (Disanak) has prepared 2,800 doses of vaccine to prevent the spread of mouth and nail disease (PMK) in livestock.

This step was taken following the surge in PMK cases in East Java and Central Java since the end of December 2024.

Head of Keswan and Kesmavet Division of Diskanak Bogor, Hardy Hendriwan, said the first phase of vaccination had been carried out with 1,425 doses, followed by an additional 1,000 doses.

"We are optimistic that the spread of PMK can be controlled with more mature experience and readiness," said Hardy, Tuesday, January 21.

In addition to vaccination, the Bogor Regency Government issued strict rules for livestock entering its territory, including being required to bring an Animal Health Certificate (SKKH) and undergo quarantine.

Hardy added that increasing livestock traffic ahead of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha is one of the triggers for the spike in cases. The government is also planning mass vaccinations in February or March.

"This step is expected to be able to maintain livestock health and support farmers in the Bogor area," concluded Hardy.
