Pramono Anung Will Make Block M ASEAN Capital

JAKARTA - The Governor of Jakarta was elected in the 2024 Pilkada, Pramono Anung plans to make the Blok M area the capital city of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) or associations of Southeast Asian countries.

This was revealed by a city planning expert who is also a member of the Pramono-Rano transition team, Nirwono Joga in a discussion in the DKI Jakarta DPRD Faction room.

"One of the things that has been discussed in the transition team is in number one, namely making Blok M the capital city of ASEAN," said Nirwono, Tuesday, January 21.

Currently, the ASEAN Secretariat office is located in the Blok M area, precisely on Jalan Sisingamangaraja Number 70A, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta. The plan is that the determination of Blok M to become the capital city of ASEAN will be carried out in August.

"Why August? Because August is ASEAN's birthday. That block M, block area M, will become the capital city of ASEAN. Now that is just this secretariat," said Nirwono.

Pramono, according to Nirwono, wants to make Blok M the capital city of ASEAN because Jakarta is projected to become a global city after the transfer of the State Capital to the archipelago, East Kalimantan.

Therefore, the plan for Blok M to become the capital city of ASEAN will be carried out in line with the development of ecosystems in the area, starting from the arrangement of public spaces to increasing tourism potential.

Therefore, the Pramono-Rano transition team is coordinating with the ranks of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to design the development of the Blok M area.

"There it will then be developed into the capital city of ASEAN. For example, the easiest. The culinary festival of ASEAN countries. That's also a lot. Not only Thailand, not only Malaysia, Singapore. There are the Philippines, there are Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia," said Nirwono.
