Pramono-Rano Era Free Breakfast Program Will Prioritize Schools In Slum Areas

Acting Head of the DKI Jakarta Education Office, Sarjoko, said that the DKI Provincial Government has started discussing plans for a free breakfast program in Jakarta with the Pramono-Rano transition team.

Free breakfast in Jakarta schools is one of the programs that Pramono Anung-Rano Karno will run if he has been inaugurated as Governor-Deputy Governor of Jakarta.

The plan is that this free breakfast program will be prioritized for schools in slum areas. This program is different from President Prabowo Subianto's free nutritious eating program (MBG).

"Later we will try it partially first, we will pilot the location of the location, maybe the priority location is in the slum RW area, adjusting our capabilities," said Sarjoko at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Thursday, January 16.

Sarjoko said this program was not directly implemented simultaneously in Jakarta schools this year.

Given that Pramono-Rano's free breakfast program has not been budgeted in the 2025 APBD, the DKI Provincial Government still needs to map out the budget allocation needed to run it.

"Our target (free absorption) will be carried out this year. Of course, it is like MBG, because it also requires readiness of many things related to funds as well," said Sarjoko.

"Once again, this is our piloting starting from a more particular scope first, while we evaluate it, while we develop it," he added.

During the Jakarta gubernatorial election campaign, Pramono Anung said he would run a free breakfast program for students at school if they won the election. This free breakfast will be an additional intake for students in addition to free lunch run by the central government.

"Actually, in the Jakarta APBD funds, there is an allocation. So it's not something too new. It's just that this program will be synergized with a lunch program from the central government. In fact, there are two different things, so we propose for a free breakfast," said Pramono in Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, Tuesday, October 29.

Pramono even guaranteed free breakfast at school can be held next year after the inauguration of the Governor-Deputy Governor of Jakarta due to the 2024 Pilkada.

"The funds, the allocation already exists. In fact, if I am inaugurated in 2025, there will be funds. So, this program can definitely run. It's not something that comes from being like that," said Pramono.

Pramono is optimistic that the free breakfast program can run every day, students go to school, similar to eating nutritious food for free. The cost per portion of this free breakfast, according to Pramono, is not much different from President Prabowo Subianto's mainstay program.

"So if I believe it will run, we will change the menu at any time. The important thing is to be healthy. That then there will be a fixed menu, nasi uduk, we will do it," he explained.
