Oil Palm Farmers In Mukomuko Are Worried After The Case Of Tiger Mangsa Sapi And Implemented By Residents

MUKOMUKO - A number of oil palm farmers in a number of areas of Mukomuko Regency, Bengkulu Province were worried after a resident and cows were eaten by tigers. Until now, tigers have not been caught by related officers.

The village head (Kades) of Pondok Batu, Mukomuko City District, Joni Susandra said, since the appearance of tigers in the Teras Terunjam District, it has affected daily activities.

"For the time being, the condition of the people in Pondok Baru Village is still carrying out their daily activities, but the community is still wary," he said when contacted from Mukomuko, Antara, Thursday, January 16.

Previously, a resident of Tunggal Jaya Village, Teras Terunjam District, named Ibnu Oktavianto (22) was found dead in Ari Cahyono's oil palm plantation on Tuesday, January 7.

Then one cow belonging to Deden Nurjamil, a resident of Mekar Jaya Village, Teras Terunjam District, which borders Tunggal Jaya Village was also found dead as a result of being eaten by a tiger.

Although the tiger incident preyed on a resident and a cow in Teras Terunjam District, the incident made residents in other areas uneasy because of the issue of the existence of the wild animal moving around.

He said the appeal to farmers in this area who are still harvesting palm fruit to remain vigilant, do not go to the garden alone to prevent unwanted things from happening.

"Farmers continue to carry out their activities because of economic demands," he said.

He said the fear was still there were only farmers who were advised not to harvest alone, to find friends to go to the oil palm plantation.

A resident of Pasar Mukomuko Village, Mukomuko City District, Agus said he never returned to harvest oil because he was afraid of tigers. "This month I will never harvest palm fruit again. I am afraid to meet tigers," he said.
