SAR Finds Victims Of Jukung Ship Explosion In Musi River Palembang

PALEMBANG - The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) found victims of a jukung ship explosion in the Musi River, Palembang City, South Sumatra (Sumsel).

"Yes, today at around 10.30 WIBEndut (27), the victim of the jukung ship explosion on Monday, April 1, 2024 night, we managed to find it after a search was carried out by combing the Musi River," said Head of the Palembang Basarnas Office Raymond Konstantin, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, April 3.

The victim was found not far from the location where the jukung ship exploded and also the Fuel Filling Station (SPBB) which is about 300 meters away. The victim was found dead.

In the search process, the joint SAR team was divided into several SRUs (SAR Units), where SRU 1 conducted surface sweeping using rubber boats and community boats, then SRU 2 conducted a sweep using RIB with a search area of up to 15 NM.

Currently, the victim has been taken to the Bhayangkara Hospital in Palembang City for further processing.

Previously, the Head of Palembang Police, Kombes Harryo Sugihhartono, explained that the tragic incident occurred on Monday (1/1) night at SPBB Apung Palembang when a jukung ship filling fuel oil (BBM) exploded.

The ship carried four crew members including Dedi, Krisna, and Endut. At 20.30 WIB there was a great explosion around the waters of SPBB Apung.

"From the results of the crime scene, we found sparks from wood and anchors that exploded, until the wood and anchor were thrown into the SPBB," he said.

The starting point of the explosion occurred on the right side of the SPBB which was badly damaged.

Based on a temporary search, the police concluded that the source of the explosion was near the end of the SPBB. The spark that reached the roof of the SPBB was covered with the explosion coming from the ship.

The incident resulted in the death of a ship driver named Askolani. Meanwhile, two of them were critical, namely Dedi and Krisna, then Edut was found dead.
