PDIP South Sulawesi Almost Did Not Believe That Nurdin Abdullah Got Subjected To OTT By The Corruption Eradication Commission

Jakarta - Chairman of the DPD PDIP South Sulawesi Andi Ridwan Wittiri admitted that he was very surprised by the arrest operation (OTT) of South Sulawesi Governor Nurdin Abdullah by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). Nurdin is considered a good figure.

"In my assessment, Prof. Nurdin Abdullah is a good figure, close to farmers, and a devout Muslim figure", said Andi Ridwan Wittiri, in his statement to reporters, Saturday, February 27.

Wittiri said that the PDIP certainly respects a just legal process. PDIP alluded to no evidence related to the OTT.

"The arrest was not OTT in the sense that there was evidence of a criminal act of corruption. That was what I heard directly from Prof. Nurdin and at that time there were no funds at Prof. Nurdin's house, considering that he was also sleeping at that time, then woken up by law enforcement agencies", said Ridwan Wittiri.

"In my experience, Prof. Nurdin applies strict protocols to avoid gratification. Even before receiving guests, all guests are prohibited from bringing anything but notebooks. All bags that are carried must be put in a locker", he said.

So far and until now, Wittiri said he believed Nurdin was an honest and good person. Moreover, Nurdin is one of the recipients of the Bung Hatta Award, which is certainly not an arbitrary award.

But PDIP emphasized that it still respects the legal process at the KPK.

“I can only hope that the law is really enforced by fully serving justice, and also keeping away from unhealthy political battles. We fully support the KPK's mission in eradicating corruption", concluded Riwan Wittiri.

As previously reported, KPK Chairman Firli Bahuri said that cash was secured in this OTT. The KPK chairman emphasized that the legal process still upholds the presumption of innocence.

"Law enforcement must also uphold human rights. The principle of the presumption of innocence must also be respected. The KPK will announce the suspect after the examination of witnesses and suspects is complete. We'll present them at a press conference", Firli told reporters, Saturday, February 27.

The KPK team immediately examined the six people. Within 24 hours the legal status of Nurdin Abdullah and other people arrested by the KPK will be determined on Friday, February 26 evening.

"The parties who were secured arrived in Jakarta and at around 09.45 a.m. local time arrived at the Red and White KPK building", said the Spokesperson for the Corruption Eradication of the KPK, Ali Fikri.
