Mahfud MD: "Pasantren People Usually Tahaduk, Not Serakah And Not As Authorities"

JAKARTA - Candidate for vice president number 3 Mahfud Md motivates students throughout Indonesia to study optimally because many Indonesian leaders are graduates of pesantren.

"I am a graduate of the pesantren, ( 4th President of the Republic of Indonesia) Gus Dur, (Vice President) Kyai Ma'ruf Amin is also a graduate of Islamic boarding schools who can manage the country, so learn well at Islamic boarding schools," Mahfud said in a press release, Sunday, December 24.

Mahfud said that Indonesia's future is not only found in public schools, but also in Islamic boarding schools. Moreover, according to Mahfud, pesantren education not only provides knowledge but also provides moral fundamentals.

"The pesantren people are usually tawaduk, not greedy and not arbitrary, because their moral foundation is already strong," said Mahfud, who graduated from Ponpes Al-Mardliyyah, Pamekasan Regency, East Java.

According to Mahfud, pesantren has made a big contribution to the progress of the nation. Therefore, he continued, the welfare of Islamic boarding school teachers must also be considered.

"I graduated from Islamic boarding schools, I also feel that I know enough about the needs of Islamic boarding schools," said the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs.
