The Ministry Of Social Affairs Gives More Than Rp. 1 Billion For Landslide Victims In Sumedang

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) disbursed assistance worth Rp1,053,703,150 for victims of landslide cliffs in Bojongkondang Village, Cihanjuang Village, Cimanggung District, Sumedang Regency, West Java.

Head of the Education Agency for Research and Social Counseling of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Syahabuddin, was quoted as saying by Antara that the aid distributed included emergency response logistical assistance worth IDR 888,671,350.

The logistical assistance provided consisted of 10 multipurpose family tents, 150 velbeds, 1,200 mattresses, 600 mattresses and 1,000 blankets.

In addition, the ministry provided 3,000 kg of rice assistance worth IDR 31,800,000 and IDR 165,000,000 for compensation for 11 heirs of disaster victims who died.

The Ministry of Social Affairs has also activated public kitchen services to help meet the daily needs of disaster victims.

"The focus of the government in this disaster is to ensure that the health needs and daily needs of survivors can be met," said Syahabuddin while inspecting the landslide-affected areas, Sunday, January 10.

Heavy rain caused landslides in the cliffs of Cihanjuang Village and buried a number of residents' houses on Saturday, January 9 yesterday.

Officers evacuated 22 residents who were buried by landslides, three of whom survived and 11 others died. Officers are still looking for eight people who were buried in the landslide material.
