The Results Of The July 2 DKI Jakarta Power Blackout Save Hundreds Of Millions Of Rupiah, Here Are The Details

JAKARTA - The Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency said that the one hour blackout on Saturday, July 2 managed to save electricity costs of up to IDR 171 million or equivalent to 118.42 MWh.

"The savings in electricity consumption from the simultaneous one-hour blackout on Saturday was 118 Megawatts, equivalent to Rp. 171 million," Asep said in his statement, Monday, July 4.

Asep said that this blackout also contributed to a decrease in CO2 emissions equivalent to 110.61 tons.

He continued, the blackout was an implementation of the DKI Jakarta Governor's Instruction Number 14 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of Lighting Out in the Framework of Energy Saving Actions and Reducing Carbon Emissions.

"The goal is to increase public awareness in energy saving, economic savings, and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions," he said.

Previously, lights were extinguished at government offices, roads, and even Jakarta icons on March 26, 2022. This light was extinguished 3 times a year, namely in commemoration of environmental action, commemoration of Earth Day, and commemoration of World Environment Day.

The location of the blackout in Jakarta from 20.30 to 21.30 WIB is carried out in all buildings/buildings of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government Office (except hospitals, health centers, clinics). Protocol roads and arterial roads in five areas will also be extinguished.

In addition, the lights on seven symbols of the city of Jakarta were also extinguished, namely, the DKI Jakarta City Hall Building, the National Monument and its fountain, the Arjuna Wiwaha Statue, the Indonesia Hotel Roundabout, the Youth Statue and its fountain, the Hero Statue, and the General Sudirman Statue.

Several privately owned buildings, commercial buildings, shopping centers, restaurants, hotels, and apartments also carried out the blackout.
