JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) shared a proud story when he attended the G20 Summit in Rome some time ago. Jokowi admitted that he was approached by a number of high-ranking officials or leaders of developed countries who wanted to invite Indonesia to establish bilateral relations.

This was revealed by Jokowi during a speech at the 10th Anniversary of the NasDem Party which was held at the National Defense Academy (ABN) building of the NasDem Party, Jakarta, Thursday, November 11 today.

"A lot of people suddenly, both when I was standing and sitting, came to me. And those were big (big) countries, heads of state who came for bilateral relations," Jokowi said via NasDem TV's Youtube broadcast.

But, for Jokowi, the most important thing is that Indonesia is elected to the presidency or chairman of the G20. This is an honorable position. In 2022, various meetings with leaders of countries that are members of the G20 will be held in Bali.

"For 1 year from December 1 to early November 2022, we will hold approximately 150 meetings both financial affairs, climate affairs, digital economic affairs which are all held in Indonesia and I also need to say that Indonesia is the first developing country to become the first developing country G20 presidency," said Jokowi.

With this important position, Jokowi hopes to be used as well as possible because Indonesia sits on a par with developed countries. The most important thing is that through this meeting, Indonesia can put its national interests first.

"I need to emphasize to us that we are a big country, we often forget. Later, after we become the next G20 Chair in 2022, we will also receive the baton to become ASEAN chairman, maybe in October or November 2022," he explained.

However, Jokowi admitted that he was sad because with this strategic position, it was not appreciated in his own country. He wants Indonesian citizens, wherever they are, to feel honored, confident that the Indonesian nation has stood on an equal footing with other nations.
