Violating The Code Of Ethics, Lili Pintauli Asked For Self-Introspection Before Lecture On Anti-Corruption

JAKARTA - Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) asked the Deputy Chairperson of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Lili Pintauli Siregar to introspect before giving an anti-corruption lecture.

This was conveyed by ICW researcher Kurnia Ramadhana in response to Lili's statement in front of regional heads and other stakeholders in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) on Monday, October 25. In her lecture, Lili reminded regional heads to be aware of corruption-prone points and mentioned abuse of authority.

"ICW suggested to Lili Pintauli Siregar that they should introspect and evaluate themselves first before talking about anti-corruption, especially maintaining an attitude of integrity," Kurnia told reporters, Wednesday, October 27.

According to her, it is important for Lili to do self-evaluation because she has been declared to have violated ethics and was given severe sanctions for communicating with litigants at the KPK. Not only that, the KPK Supervisory Board also stated that Lili was proven to have abused the authority she had for her personal affairs.

Kurnia assessed that KPK leaders who had violated ethics such as Lili and KPK Chair Firli Bahuri no longer deserved to sit in their positions.

As a reminder, Firli was also declared to have violated the code of ethics for using a helicopter while on a personal visit some time ago.

According to Kurnia, Lili and Firli can make it difficult to prevent corruption because of their violations. "How is it possible that people will believe what she says if she violates the code of ethics," he said.

"ICW cannot imagine the moral burden of KPK employees when carrying out anti-corruption campaigns because at the same time the commissioners themselves often violate the code of ethics," continued Kurnia.

As previously reported, Lili mentioned the abuse of authority that is often done by officials because they are accompanied by certain parties who want to make profits. This was conveyed when she spoke in front of all regional heads, elements of the PLN Forkompimda for the Nustra region, Maluku, Papua; and representatives of the Ministry of ATR/BPN for the NTT Province on Monday, October 25 yesterday.

Initially, Lili asked regional heads in the province to be aware of corruption-prone points that often make officials fall into the abyss of violent crime.

"The mode of corruption of regional heads is not far from bribery and gratification in granting permits, buying and selling positions and kickbacks in procurement," she said at the event as quoted from his written statement, Tuesday, October 26.

Thus, she reminded regional heads that their real enemy is themselves who take advantage of their position and those around them who are accompanying them to get the opportunity to enrich themselves by illegal means.

"Who are our enemies? We ourselves and the people around us are taking advantage of our position," she said.

Lili then asked regional heads to establish regional policies in accordance with the norms, standards, procedures, and criteria set by the central government.

This method, she continued, is believed to make regional heads able to run the wheels of government in an accountable and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and prevent them from being caught in corruption cases. Moreover, since 2004 there have been hundreds of regional leaders in the country who have been ensnared by various modus operandi.

"It is recorded that 152 regional heads are perpetrators of corruption based on data on the handling of KPK cases from 2004 to March 31, 2021," she explained.
