Strong Wind Landed Malang, Residents' House Walls Collapsed, Tile Flying

MALANG - Strong winds hit Malang Regency, East Java. The walls of people's houses collapsed, there were also roof tiles flying.

Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Malang Regency said the wall collapsed at Sukadi's house. During the incident, Sukadi was hit by a wall that collapsed in the strong winds and was injured.

In addition, 2 houses belonging to other residents were damaged on the roof of their house. As a result of this incident, the losses incurred from the 3 housing units are estimated at IDR 60 million.

Separately, a 15-meter-high Basia tree fell. As a result, traffic on the route to the Torongrejo-Junrejo Village in Batu City was cut off for 2.5 hours.

“This tree did not fall because it was rotten. But because of the strong winds, the trees are still strong", said the staff of the Batu City Regional Disaster Management Agency.

Residents are advised to be vigilant because BMKG (Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency) has issued extreme weather forecasts in several areas including Malang Raya for the next 3 days.

"The prediction from BMKG that strong winds will still occur for the next 3 days is around 24-30 knots per hour", he said.
