Sentenced To Death By Idi District Court Idi East Aceh, 4 Defendants In This Drug Case Are Still Contemplating Submitting An Appeal

ACEH TIMUR - The panel of judges at Idi District Court (PN) in East Aceh Regency sentenced four-drug defendants to death with 50 kilograms of methamphetamine as evidence.

The verdict was read out by the panel of judges at the trial at the Idi District Court today. The panel of judges was chaired by Apriyanti accompanied by M Zaky and Khalid, each as member judges.

The trial was attended by a team of public prosecutors from the East Aceh District Attorney's Office Harry Arfhan, Cherry Arrida, and M Iqbal. The defendants attended the virtual trial from the Class IIB Idi Penitentiary, East Aceh.

The defendants who were sentenced to death, as reported by Antara, were Zakaria AB alias Jek bin Abu Bakar (50), Zakaria alias Jek Telkom bin Ibrahim (43), Marzuki alias Riki bin Hasan Ibrahim (30). All three are residents of Idi Rayeuk, East Aceh. Meanwhile, Julkifli alias Midun bin Muhammad (27) is a resident of Nurussalam, East Aceh.

Meanwhile, another defendant, Khairul Bahri (48), a resident of Idi Rayeuk, East Aceh, passed away in early September last year due to shortness of breath and heart disease.

The verdict or verdict of the panel of judges is by the demands of the public prosecutor (JPU) which was read out in the previous trial. Previously, the Public Prosecutor had demanded the defendants with the death penalty.

In its decision, the panel of judges stated that the defendants were legally and convincingly proven to have violated Article 114 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 132 paragraph (1) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.

Based on this decision, the defendants stated that they are thinking about filing an appeal. The same goes for the public prosecutor. The panel of judges gave the parties two weeks to state their decision.

Previously, the defendants were arrested by East Aceh Police personnel on March 23, 2021. They were arrested for smuggling 50 kilograms of methamphetamine in the waters of East Aceh.
