Government Extends PPKM Java-Bali Until October 18, There Are Regions That Increase To Level 3

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan announced that the implementation of restrictions on community activities (PPKM) in Java-Bali was extended for another 2 weeks.

In the extension of PPKM on October 5 to 18, 2021, Luhut said there was an increase in the number of regions that implemented PPKM Level 3.

"In implementing the PPKM level for the next two weeks, at level 3 it will increase from 84 regencies/cities to 107 regencies/cities," Luhut said in a virtual press conference, Monday, October 4.

Meanwhile, there are currently 20 regions that will continue PPKM Level 2 for the next two weeks. Then, there is no area that is still undergoing PPKM Level 4.

Luhut said, the increase in the number of regions implementing PPKM Level 3, which was previously level 2, was due to the fact that these regions had not met the vaccination target for implementing PPKM Level 2.

"Cities at level 2 that previously received dispensation (on the implementation of PPKM until October 4) are currently unable to achieve the vaccination coverage target," said Luhut.

However, he said that the minimum requirement for elderly vaccination coverage to reduce PPKM levels from 3 to 2 and 2 to 1 which was enforced since September 13, 2021, was able to significantly increase the speed of vaccination for the elderly in Java-Bali.

"Currently, the dose 1 vaccination rate for Java and Bali has reached 37 percent as of September 30, 2021, up nearly 5 percent from September 13, 2021," he said.

In addition, Luhut said the development of COVID-19 cases in Java-Bali had shown a decline of up to 98 percent from the peak of cases on July 15.

"The effective reproduction rate in Java-Bali has also been below 1, and specifically for Bali it is still at number 1. In addition, the number of tests carried out per day continues to increase, so that it can reduce the positivity rate which is already below 1," he concluded.
