Swine Flu Discovered In Pahandut Seberang, Central Kalimantan Plans To Close Pork Supply From Outside
KALTENG - Head of the Department of Food Crops, Horticulture, and Livestock (TPHP) of Central Kalimantan Province (Kalteng) Sunarti said that currently, African swine fever (ASF) has been found in the local area.
"In Central Kalimantan, yesterday we investigated in Pahandut Seberang and Tuwung Village, Pulang Pisau. First, it was found in Tuwung and in Tuwung, we have investigated with the Banjarbaru Veterinary Center," Sunarti said in Palangka Raya as reported by Antara, Wednesday, September 29.
Related to this, her party plans to close the entry of pigs from outside. The closure plan is still waiting for the results of investigations in several areas to be completed.
"Central Kalimantan will close for the importation of pigs. We are waiting for the results of investigations from several regions to close, then we will decide to close," she said.
As for the number, his party is still collecting data so they don't know for sure. Sunarti explained the characteristics of ASF are pigs suddenly die and clinically on the neck of the blood vessels appear blue.
"In Tuwung, pets, but if I'm not mistaken there are purchases from outside as well. Transmission can be from food," she said.
Although this disease is not a zoonosis or is not contagious to humans, it is quite disturbing the economy of the community, because it can cause the death of pigs.
Therefore, it is trying its best together with relevant agencies to carry out handling in the field.

"Our team is conducting investigations in other districts," she explained.
If in the future the closure of the entry of pigs from outside the region is carried out temporarily under ASF control, it is estimated that it will not have too much impact on the activities of pig entrepreneurs.
Sunarti said that actually, the pig population in Central Kalimantan is quite large, but consumption is not too high, while the results are also widely sold outside.
"The pig farming business in Central Kalimantan is still on a small scale, the average ownership of pigs is around 20-50 for the breeders, in fact, the average ownership in each house is two to three heads," she explained.
