Video Of Junior High School Students In West Sumatra Being Beaten From The Road To The Palm Oil Plantation Viral, Parents Are Reluctant To Peace

SUMBAR - West Pasaman Police, West Sumatra conducted mediation related to a viral video of violence involving students of SMP Negeri 4 Pasaman (Junior High School), by presenting the parents of the perpetrator and the victim.

West Pasaman Police Chief, AKBP M Aries Purwanto, accompanied by the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit AKP Fetrizal said, apart from parents, his party also invited witnesses who saw the fight.

"While it is running, we will also carry out an investigation process to collect evidence and information", he explained at Simpang Empat as reported by Antara, Tuesday, September 28.

Videos with student violence are viral on social media and uploaded to the @Adi Abadi Adi Facebook account. A student, in the video, beats a group of students in an Aia Gadang oil palm plantation, Pasaman District.

The upload contained the title "please proceed legally, Pasbar Aia Gadang SMP 4". In the 2.50-minute video, it appears that a student in junior high school uniform is beaten by two people, one in normal clothes and the other in the same school uniform.

The video recorded the beating on the road to the oil palm plantation. The suspect was seen beating the victim to the ground. While the victim was seen trying to dodge the blow without putting up a fight.

Mediation from the litigants was carried out on Monday, September 27, involving the Women and Children Protection Unit (PPA) of the West Pasaman Police Criminal Investigation Unit.

The mediation brought together the parents of the victim YH (14), the parents of the alleged perpetrators MR (16) and MA (14), the school principal, Wali Nagari (Head of Esa) Aia Gadang, the Head of Jorong Batang Umpai, and the Head of Jorong Tongar Nagari Lingkuang Aua.

"We listen to the responses of each party to provide input and hope for the handling of the case", he said.

Although they have listened to the statements of each party, they have not yet found a common ground.

"We will continue the mediation process on another occasion. We suggest to both parties to resolve it amicably", he also said.

However, he said, the Women and Children Protection Unit of the West Pasaman Police Criminal Investigation Unit will continue the investigation and investigation process, such as asking for information from the perpetrators and victims as well as witnesses who saw the incident.

"According to the mandate of the law, the investigation process against children refers to the juvenile justice system, we will carry out a diversion process which will involve the Bukittinggi Correctional Center, Child Protection Social Workers and the Office of Women's Empowerment, Family Planning and the Protection of Women and Children Empowerment", he said.
