Welcoming Azis Syamsuddin's Steps To Resign As Leader, MKD: Reducing DPR's Pressure
JAKARTA - The House of Representatives' Honorary Court (MKD) welcomes the steps taken by the suspect in Central Lampung's DAK bribery, Azis Syamsuddin, who immediately resigned as Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI).
"This is very positive," said Deputy Chairperson of the MKD Habiburokhman at the DPR Building, Tuesday, September 28.
According to him, the resignation of Azis as a leader after being named a KPK suspect could reduce pressure on the DPR institutionally. On the other hand, the head of the DPR for the Korpolkam Sector can also concentrate on his case.
"First, he can concentrate on his legal problems, solve them, defend themselves. Second, reduce pressure on the DPR as an institution because we are under the public's attention after all,"
"When there is a legal problem, step aside for a while, solve it, see what the results are. Well, it's not too burdensome for us," explained Habib.
The MKD, said Habib, also no longer needed to hold meetings on Azis Syamsuddin's ethical issues. Except, regarding his membership status as a member of the DPR, there is his own mechanism. Namely, there will be processes and actions if the member of the council concerned does not participate in DPR activities for 3 consecutive months.

"He resigned as deputy chairman of the DPR, but his membership status is waiting for a legal decision. How many months of absence, there will be a trial. If I'm not mistaken, 3 consecutive months of inactivity have only taken place (action, ed)," explained Habiburokhman.
The member of Commission III of the DPR reiterated that Azis' status has become a suspect so that there are legal facts and no longer need to be tried in the MKD.
"It's not a civil case, it's not the number of reporters, but the legal fact is about Azis. Incidentally, there are many reports but there is only one legal fact," concluded Habiburokhman.
